Signal 3 at maritime ports

Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no.3 instead of earlier-advised signal no.3 as the Bay turned violent due to a deep depression.

In a special bulletin published on Thursday (November 16), Met office advised all the fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay and deep sea to come close to the coast and proceed with caution. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.

The well-marked low over west central part of Bay and adjoining southwest Bay intensified into a depression over west central Bay and adjoining area.

The low pressure is now moving in a northerly direction.

Under its influence deep convection is taking place over north Bay.

However, current gloomy state of weather accompanying drizzles caused by the depression is likely to end by Saturday (November 18).

“Drizzling and the gloomy state of sky would continue till tomorrow”, said a Met official Thursday.

Met office forecasted that light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Khulna, Barisal, Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions.

Besides, moderately heavy falls have been predicted for a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions with some other places over the country.

Meanwhile, the rain was measured four millimeters in Dhaka, for last 24 hours.

However, there is no possibility of turning the depression into a cycle as it has meanwhile changed its direction towards Odisha state of India, said Aysha Khatun, a Met official.
