On the proposal of opening separate lane on Dhaka streets for VIPs and emergency services, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said separate lane is necessary for emergency cervices like ambulance and Fire Truck.

Quader, also the General Secretary of ruling Awami League, made the remarks while talking to reporters at secretariat on Sunday (February 11).

The minister said, “I have received a proposal from cabinet division for opening separate lane for emergency services and VIPs. However, no meeting has been held on the proposal yet at Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA). DTCA is inspecting the matter.”

“Personally I think that separate lane is needed for emergency services. We have limited space on roads and I am not sure how much of it can be arranged at he moment.”

Quader also said, “We all should get out of the VIP culture gradually. We should think about the common people at first. I don’t think it’s fair that VIPs should get any special treatment while the ordinary people are deprived of it. We should think about it.”
