6 expelled for ragging at SUST

Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) expelled its five students for their alleged involvement in ragging students.


SUST registrar Md. Ishfaqul Islam confirmed the matter.


Civil Engineering and Environmental Science department students Ashiq Ahmed Himel and Hamidur Rahman Ranjan were expelled for life time. Hammadul Hassan and Shahriar Zaman were suspended for two years while Ishtiaq Ahmed for one year.


Hammadul, Shahriar and Ishtiaq were also fined Tk 10,000 each in addition to the punishment.


Besides, the authorities have fined and alerted another 16 students for their involvement in ragging. All are the students of the same department.


Among the students, Bablu Marma, Adri Das, Abu Redwan Khan, Omar Alam Sarkar and Roni Sarker were fined six thousands taka, Ahmed Hasib, Debasis Basu, Mahbub Ibrahim, Md. Shahidul Alam, Md. Alamin, Dipta Taru, Asiqul Enam, Raisul Bari Sadat and Sazibur Rahman were fined three thousands taka, while Nazmus Sakib and Sariful Islam were alerted, said the registrar.
