Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, alternatively spelled as Sarat Chandra Chatterjee was a prominent Bengali novelist and short story writer of the early 20th century. Most of his works deal with the lifestyle, tragedy and struggle of the village people and the contemporary social practices that prevailed in Bengal. He remains the most popular, translated, adapted, and plagiarized Indian author of all time.

Now a film is going to be made based on the 15 popular characters from his four novels- ‘Grihadaha’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Srikanta’ and ‘Boro Didi’. The title of the film has been decided as ‘Kathgoray Sarat Chandra’. The film will be directed by Arifur Jaman. News has that Bangladeshi actress Sadika Parvin Popy will be seen in Parbati character in this film against Ferdous, who will be playing Devdas character. Ferdous has already signed the film; Popy just signed the contract on last Friday.

Although Popy and Ferdous will be seen as Parboti-Devdas, this film will not be a remake of Devdas, informed the director. “The story of this film is totally original. Parbati and Devdas character will be seen alongside with other characters from Sarat Chandra’s novel,” said the director.

About being casted in Parbati character, Popy said, “Parbati is one of the most popular characters from Sarat Chandra’s literature. I am grateful to the director that he casted me in this character. I hope I will be able to do the character justice.”

A handful of actors have been casted in this film. Anisur Rahman Milon will be seen in the Gohar character from ‘Srikanta’ novel, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay character will be played by Gazi Rakayet.  The shooting of the film will begin on April and will end on May, informed the director.
