BNP leaders’ emergency meeting held

BNP Standing Comm-ittee Members sat for an emergency meeting on Sunday night. Secretary General of the party Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir presided over the meeting.The meeting started at 7:30pm and continued till 9:00pm. Public Relations Officers of BNP Shamsuddin Didar and Shayrul Kabir confirmed the matter to media.

On the other hand, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to hold a press conference at the party’s headquarters at Naya Paltan today.BNP leaders discussed about the upcoming mass rally of BNP in Chittagong on March 15. However, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has denied the BNP permission to hold its rally slated for Monday at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka. DMP Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman said police had not granted permission considering public safety.

The party planned to hold the protest rally in a push for its Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release. Khaleda has been serving a five-year jail term since she was convicted by a lower court in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8.

Senior BNP leaders including Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain,  Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar, Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, among others were present there.
