Editors’ Council concerned over some sections; Minister assures

Expressing concerns over a number of sections of Digital Security Act, Editors’ Council demanded amendment of the certain articles.

Leaders of the council expressed the concern during a meeting with Law Minister Anisul Huq, Post, Telecommunications & IT Minister Mustafa Jabbar and State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak at the secretariat on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Law Minister after the meeting told reporters that the concerns of the council are logical to some extent.

The editors expressed their concern over sections 8, 21, 25, 29, 32, 43 of the act, saying these sections are against people’s right to freedom of expression and free speech.

The law minister assures the editors of placing a proposal in the parliamentary standing committee’s meeting scheduled for April 22 to invite them for a discussion regarding the issue.
