2 killed in ‘shootout’

Two drug dealers were killed in separate incidents of gunfight in Dhaka and Sirajganj early Monday.
With this, the number of deaths stood at 160 across the country since May 12.
In Dhaka, a youth was killed in a gun-battle with the members of Detective Branch (DB) of police at Gorur Hat area under Bhatara Thana in Dhaka early Monday.

The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.

Bhatara Police Station SI Shahin Mohammad Amanullah said being informed about gunfight, a team of police went to the spot early hours and found a bullet-hit body.

The body was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
In Sirajganj, drug trader Shahin Reza, 35, son of Danesh Sheikh, was killed in a gunfight with detectives in Raipur Railway station area under Sadar municipal area early Monday.

Helal Uddin, officer in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a drive in the area around 2am.

When the team reached the area, the gang opened fire on the law enforcers.

The law enforcers then fired back for self defence, leaving Shahin dead on the spot.

Three policemen were also injured.

DB police recovered a foreign pistol and 307 Yaba pills from the spot.
