2 more killed in anti-drug drive

Two more ‘drug traders’ were killed in a a ‘gunfight’ with detectives in Kalibari Lane area of Mymensingh district town  early Tuesday.

With this, the number of deaths stood at 162 across the country since May 12.

The deceased were identified as Rony Mia, 30, son of Mamun Mia, a resident of Krishtopur area and Anwar Hossain alias Anar, 38, son of Siraj Ali. aresident of Bashbari Colony.

On secret information that a gang of drug traders gathered in an abandoned house, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a drive there, said Ashiku Rahman, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of district police.

Sensing presence of the DB team, the gang fired gunshots at them, forcing the DB police to fire back for self defence.

After the gunfight, police found that two drug dealers sustained bullet injuries.

They were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared them dead.

Two policemen were also injured during the shootout, the OC said

Police recovered 1750 Yaba tablets, three bullet shells and a foreign pistol from the spot.
