Suspected drug peddler killed in ‘shootout’

An alleged drug trader was killed in a gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Bamandanga area of Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha early Tuesday.

With this, the number of deaths stood at 211 across the country since May 12.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam.
ASP Habibur Rahman Habib, assistant commander of RAB-13 Gaibandha camp, said on secret information that a gang of drug traders was trading drug in the area, a team of RAB conducted a drive there around 3am.

Sensing presence of the team, the gang members opened fire on them, forcing the elite force members to fire back for self-defence.

Later, RAB found the bullet-hit Salam and taken him to Sundarganj Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
