No assurance of anomaly-free JS polls: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said his commission has no scope to give assurance that irregularities won’t happen in the upcoming national parliamentary polls.

But measures will be taken to control the situations, he said.

The CEC was talking to the reporters after attending a workshop on voting rights for physically & mentally challenged people, at EC office Tuesday (August 7).

“The more irregularities reported in any place we have taken the more action there, during the five city corporation elections,” he said.

“Such public elections experience irregularities to some extent”

“We don’t think that the national polls to face such difficulty. We haven’t the scope to offer assurance of not happening any irregularity. But we will control (the situation) as per requirement,” he said regarding the upcoming parliamentary polls.

“Proper management are there for the polls environment. We don’t feel any difficulty,” he added.

However, the CEC added the election will be held at the end of December or early January next year. As per the constitution, the polls must be held within January 22.

EC Secretary Helaluddin, among other officials, accompanied KM Nurul Huda while he was talking to the reporters.
