Court accepts charge sheet on Holey Artisan attack

A tribunal in Dhaka has taken into cognisance a charge sheet against eight persons in a case filed over the attack in Holey Artisan Bakery in posh Gulshan area in July,2016.
Special Tribunal Judge Mujibur Rahman accepted the charge sheet on Wednesday and exonerate Hasnat Karim, former teacher of North South University, from the charges.
Earlier on July 23, Counter Terrorism Unit inspector Humayun Kabir pressed charges against eight.

Of the eight charge-sheeted accused, six are now in jail while two are at large.

Those who are in jail are :Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi, Rakibul Hasan Regan, Rashedul Islam alias Rash, Sohel Mahfuz, Mizanur Rahman alias Mizan and Hadisur Rahman Sagor.

The two absconding accused are : Shahriful Islam Khaled and Mamunur Rashid Ripon.

UNB adds : The court also issued an arrest warrant against the two charge-sheeted accused who are on the run and asked officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station to submit a report on the execution of the arrest warrant on August 16.
Hasnat Karim was rescued along with 12 others during the commando operation at the Holey Artisan Bakery in the city’s Gulshan area on July 2 following a 12-hour hostage standoff.
Twenty-two people–nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian, one Bangladeshi-born American and two Bangladeshis — were killed in the terror attack on the restaurant on July 1, 2016.
