Dhaka cafe attack: Hasnat released from jail

Former North South University teacher Hasnat Karim, who was detained in Gulshan Holey Artisan café attack case, released from jail on Thursday (August 9).

He was released from Kashimpur High Security Prison in Gazipur in the afternoon, jail super Shahjahan Ahmed confirmed the matter.

He said Hasnat was freed after two years in custody after court ordered his release in connection with the Gulshan café attack case.

Earlier on August 8, Anti-terrorism special tribunal took the charge-sheet of Gulshan Holey Artisan Cafe attack case into contingence.

On July 23, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Police filed charge-sheet against eight of the 21 suspects, who were identified to be involved in the Gulshan’s Holey Artisan Bakery militant attack in 2016. Hasnat Karim’s name was not mentioned in the charge sheet as no evidence of his involvement was found.

On July 1 in 2016, militants rushed into the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan with heavy weapons and took all the men and women inside captive. Later at night, Task force launched fierce raid where twenty people including foreigners and two police officials were killed.
