2 Islamic University students ‘commit suicide’

Two students of Islamic University in Kushtia have allegedly committed suicide within a span of three hours on Thursday night.

Police recovered the bodies from Jhenidah and Kushtia districts. The deceased were identified as Rokonuzzaman and Mumtahina. Both appeared in Masters’ final examination from Finance and Banking Department this year.

Mumtahina’s father M Ashraful Alam is the chairman of Al Hadith and Islamic Studies Department of the university.

Quoting family members and friends, police said the students had been in affair. They killed themselves as their families did not accept the affair.

Ashraful Alam told media that Mumtahina committed suicide by hanging herself in her room.

Hearing her death news, Rokonuzzaman jumped under a train at Moti Mia Railgate in Kushtia district town at about 9:15pm.
IU Proctor Mahbubur Rahman told media that both Mumtahina and Rokonuzzaman were meritorious students. Rokonuzzaman secured first class first in the honours final year exam.
