Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon has urged the ministry concerned to take necessary steps in managing bus services in city under a franchise of six companies.

Bus routes will be brought under a franchise as soon as possible to restore discipline in transportation system. Creating the franchise will be an effective initiative for safer roads, he said.

Mayor Sayeed Khokon made the remarks while inaugurating the month-long Clean and Safe Mobility campaign in city’s Sonagraon hotel on Sunday noon (August 12).

Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) executive director Rafiqur Rahman, architect Mobasshar Hossain, Columnist Syed Abul Maksud and DSCC chief executive officer khan Mohammad Bilal were also present at the event.

The mayor said, traffic movement will be monitored centrally by installing vehicular image detector video cameras in Gulistan, Palton, Mohakhali and Gulshan-1 intersections.

“With the finance of World Bank, some zebra crossings and lane separation dot solid markings will be introduced in 92 important roads. Moreover, bus stops, foot over bridge and traffic signboards will also be constructed in key places,” he added.
