Polls schedule to be announced by Nov : EC

The schedule of the next general election is likely to be announced in the first week of November, said Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
“We are working for the declaration of the election schedule in the first week of November and the election is likely to be held in the last week of December … Other matters will be decided at the EC meetings,” Helaluddin said at a press conference at the Nirbachan Bhaban in city’s Agargaon.

Earlier, a meeting of the election commissioners was held with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in the chair, BSS reports.

Ahmed said a separate meeting will be held for the preparation of the next national polls where different issues including lists of voters, voting centers, ballot papers and equipment will be discussed.

He said there is no possibility of holding dialogue with political parties ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Ahmed informed that the Forum of Election Management Bodies of South Asia (FEMBoSA) Conference will be held on September 5 to 6 here. Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will inaugurate the conference, he added.
