PM Sheikh Hasina mourns death of Kofi Annan

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of former United Nations Secretary General and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kofi Annan.

In a condolence message, the prime minister recalled with profound respect Kofi Annan’s contributions to establishing peace in the world.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Kofi Annan died in Geneva, Switzerland at the age of 80 on Saturday after a short illness, his foundation announced.

“It is with immense sadness that the Annan family and the Kofi Annan Foundation announce that Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate, passed away peacefully on Saturday 18th August after a short illness,” the foundation said in a statement.
