One killed in West Bengal blast

A man was killed in an explosion at an office of the Trinamool Congress in West Midnapore district today, the police said.
Five others were injured in the blast at the office of Mamata Banerjee’s party at the district in West Bengal.

On photos of the explosion site posted online, twisted metal rods and chunks of concrete could be seen strewn on the ground in front of the TMC office, as policemen walked about the compound to gather evidence.

The police are checking what caused the blast. The injured people have been admitted to hospital.

The explosion happened at 10 am, the police said, quoting witnesses.

People familiar with the matter said it is not known whether a crude bomb or a gas cylinder inside had exploded at the party office.

TMC legislator Pradyut Ghosh said the cause of the explosion could not be ascertained till noon and the police are looking into it.
