Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina today paid rich tributes to Awami League lawmaker late SM Mostafa Rashidi Suja and Opposition Chief Whip and Jatiya Party MP Tajul Islam Chowdhury,
saying that the nation has lost two competent MPs in their death.

“Suja was the general secretary of Khulna district AL and efficient leader as well as a sports and culture-lover,” she said while taking part in a discussion on the obituary reference on the first of the 22nd session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad.

The prime minister said, the BNP-Jamaat government after coming to power in 2001 unleashed inhuman torture on the numerous Awami League leaders and workers.

“Suja also became a victim of that torture and during the Operation “Clean Heart” his leg was damaged by drill machine … 150 people including AL leaders and workers were brutally killed during that drive,” she said.

The Leader of the House said due to this torture, Suja’s physical condition deteriorated seriously. “The organisational loss that has been created in Khulna’s politics in his death will never be fulfilled,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said Tajul Islam played a strong role in the January 5 elections of 2014. “Holding that elections was a challenge for us and he worked sincerely with the opposition leader to stage that elections,” she said.

The premier said Tajul Islam was a popular leader in the Kurigram region. “We’ve lost two efficient lawmakers in their death,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved families.
