PM gives Taka 20 crore more to journalists’ welfare trust

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina donated Taka 20 crore more to the fund of the Bangladesh Journalists’ Welfare Trust, which was constituted by the present government to provide financial support to the newsmen in their needs.

The prime minister handed over the cheque of the donation to the President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Mollah Jalal at a function at her Gonobhaban residence here today.

PM’s media advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, State Minister for Information Tarana Halim, Information Secretary Abdul Malek, Managing Director and Chief Editor of BSS and former president of BFUJ Abul Kalam Azad, Director General of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) Shaha Alamgir, Principal Information Officer (PIO) Quamrun Nahar, secretary general of BFUJ Shaban Mahmud, president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Abu Jafor Surja and general secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury were present.

The premier initiated the trust fund in 2014 by giving at amount of Taka 5 crore as seed money, which later drew more money from a number of private media houses raising the fund to Taka 15 crore in the last four years.

At a function on September 19, 2018 the prime minister had given assurance of providing Taka 20 crore more to the fund of the trust. (BSS)
