Govt draws elaborate programmes marking Martyred Intellectuals Day

The government has taken elaborate programmes to observe the Martyred Intellectuals Day on December 14.

Marking the day, President M Abdul Hamid will place wreath at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at Mirpur at 7:05 am while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will place wreath at 7:06 am, said an official release here today.

Bangladesh Television (BTV) and other private TV channels will live telecast the wreath placing programme, the release said, adding that the
President and the Prime Minister will also issue separate messages on the occasion of the day.

Led by Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, martyred intellectuals’ family members and freedom fighters will place wreaths at the memorial at 7:22 am while people from all strata can pay their homage from 8:30 am on the day.

Besides, the martyred intellectuals’ family members and freedom fighters led by Liberation War Affairs Minister will also place wreaths on the memorial at Rayerbazar killing field in the capital at 8:30 am.

Bangladesh Betar, BTV and other TV channels will air special programmes, highlighting the significance of the day.

Marking the day, discussions will be held at upazila and district levels across the country.

Authorities have requested all not to use mikes and loudspeakers at the programme venues for protecting the sanctity of the Martyred Intellectuals Day. (BSS)
