Bogura-6 by polls held

The by-polls to Bogura-6 seat was held peacefully on Monday with the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in voting centres.
The voting was held from 9am to 5pm at 141 centres while there were about 3,87,458 eligible voters in the constituency.
Tight security measures were taken as around 3500 members of police, RAB
and Ansar performed duties to avert any untoward incident.

Besides, 26 executive magistrates ran similar number of mobile courts during polls while 15 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members patrolled the constituency.

Voters were very happy after casting their votes using EVMs. Rubina Akhter, a voter of Shaheed Nagar in Sadar thana said, “I am very happy to cast my vote in EVM as it is very easy.”

The constituency was declared vacant as BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was elected from the seat in the December 30 parliamentary election, did not take oath as MP within the 90 days from the date of the first meeting of parliament.

Golam Mohammad Siraj of BNP, T Zaman Niketa of Awami League, Nurul Islam Omar of Jatiya Party, Dr Mansur Rahman of Bangladesh Congress, Mufti Rafiqul Islam of Muslim League and independent candidate Md Minhaz Mondal are there in the election race.

Besides, another independent candidate Syed Kabir Ahmed Mithu quit the election race after the expiry of the deadline.

There are 387,458 voters — 191,668 males and 195,790 females – in the constituency.
