At least 3,000 families have been affected by devastating fire that gutted 500-600 shanties at a slum in city’s Mirpur area.
Fire service and Civil defence assistant director Rezaul Karim said confirmed this to media men on Saturday.
He said, a total of 24 fire fighting units brought the fire under control around 10:30pm on friday which broke at Jhilpar slum behind Rupnagar Police Station around 7:22pm. And the fire fighters put the blaze fully under control around 1:30am.
“We yet not find out the reason behind the fire. But our investigation is on,” Rezaul Karim said.
Main problem was that the slum has only one entry point. So, it took time to reach. As a result, the fire spread out at the slum where most of the shanties were made of wood or bamboo, he said.
