Lightning strikes kill 12 in 7 dists

Twelve people were killed in lighting strikes in seven districts of the country on Thursday.

From Bogura correspondent reports, three people, including a couple, died by lightning strikes in Sariakandi upazila in the afternoon. The deceased were identified as Amirul Islam, 40, a resident of Dakatmara Char, his wife Fahima Begum, 30, and Sumon, 32, son of Tahsin of Nij Batia Char, in the same upazila . Thunderbolt struck Amirul and his wife when they were returning home with their cattle in Dakatmara Char area, leaving them dead on the spot.  Amirul’s five cows also died in the lightning strike. Meanwhile, lightning strikes hit Sumon when he washing raw jute in Nij Batia Char area, leaving him critically injured.

Sumon was rushed to Sariakandi Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Three people were also injured in the lightning strikes in separate places in the upazila. Sariakandi Police Station officer in-charge Al Amin confirmed the matter.

In Faridpur, three people, including a woman, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike. The deceased were identified as Hasi Begum, 45, a resident Kagdi Shwajankanda village, Bilal Molla, 47, of Bata village, in Saltha upazila, and Imran Bepari, 22, son of Ismail Molla of Dakshin Bilania village in Nagarkanda upazila.
In Sirjagnj, farmer Dhuita Sheikh, 55, was killed at Chandpur village in Raiganj upazila. Brahmmagachha Union Parishad Chairman Md Golam Sarwar Liton said thunderbolt struck Dhuitia Sheikh when he was working in a field, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to a local hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
In Patuakhali, Motiur Rahman Farazi, 65, died by lithning strike at Haridebpur village in Galachipa upazila. In Manikganj, Chandra Sarker, 55, died at Mouhali village in Gheor upazila.

In Magura, farmer Walid Bishwash, 34, was hit by lightning strike while working in a paddy field at Noldah village in Sadar upazila.

In Jamalpur, 2 died from lightning strikes in Madarganj upazila in the evening. Of them, Sarwar Hossain,15, son of Titu Mia of Khilkathi village, and Russel,22, son of Gani Mia of Chargolabari Namapara village.
