Published on: 6:16 pm - Sunday | June 28, 2020

Ferdousi Rahman is a pioneer of music in Bangladesh. Simultaneously she is a country singer, Rabindra Sangeet singer, Nazrul Sangeet singer and playback singer.

The continuity of the success of music life that started in childhood is still flowing. And, today is the 79th birthday of this veteran artiste of Bangladeshi music arena.

She has been honored with various awards including Ekushey Padak, National Film Award for Lifetime Achievement, National Film Award for Music Director and others.

She made her debut as a playback singer with the release of the movie ‘A Desh Tomar Amar’. Ferdousi Rahman was born on 28 June 1941 in Kochbihar. She has been there many times since birth, sometimes to serve as a musician, sometimes as a judge of the Bhawaiya festival.

Despite being her birthday today, there is no additional arrangement for the occasion.

She has lost a number of her dear ones to Covid-19 and is sad for them.

Ferdousi Rahman said, “Many of us who started working together are not here today. It is because of coronavirus, all the loved ones I’ve worked with for a long time are gone.

We have lost many more dear people including revered Anisuzzaman Sir, revered Kamal Lohani and Mostafa Kamal Syed. We have lost so many well-known people in the last few days that our minds are really broken.

How can I actually think about myself with this broken mind? My birthday does not matter to anyone in the overall situation of the country. I want God to keep everyone healthy and well.

Again, so that we can talk openly with everyone, so that we can see the smile on everyone’s face. I will find my happiness in the midst of the laughter of others.”

Ferdousi Rahman has been writing her autobiography for some time. For the past two years, however, she has been busy writing.

Regarding the singing of the musicians of this period, Ferdousi Rahman said, ‘There is very little perseverance among those who are singing now. Well known artists like Mohammad Ali Siddiqui, Syed Abdul Hadi, Khondokar Faruk Ahmed have sung along with working their jobs.

They were diligent in singing. And now those who are singing are just singing.

If so, then why won’t you pursue? Even if I may sound angry with my words, I will say that music is something that the more one pursues, the more lasting one can be.”

She has sung in about 260 movies. He said that he has recorded more than five thousand songs including three long plays, 500 disc records, about twenty cassettes.
