Human trafficker held in Madaripur

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a man from Rajoir upazila in Madaripur district for his alleged involvement in human trafficking.

The arrested is Robiul Mia, 40, a resident of Nurpur village in the upazila.

Human traffickers killed 30 migrant workers, including 26 Bangladeshi nationals, in Libya in a smuggling warehouse in Mezda, near the city of Gharyan, southwest of Tripoli on May 28.

RAB-8 company commander additional superintendent of police Mohammad Tajul Islam confirmed the matter through a press release on Tuesday.

During initial interrogation Robiul Mia confessed his involvement in human trafficking, said RAB.

His son Sajib is now staying in Libya and sent Bangladeshis to the country illegally in co-operation with him, the press release added.

Robiul Mia is accused of several cases including human trafficking with the police station, said the official.
